Text details various treatments for Keratoconus
Dr Arthur Cummings, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, launched his book “Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking” at a function at the Beacon Hospital.
The book is a text which describes the range of treatments available for the management of an eye condition called Keratoconus.
Keratoconus is an eye condition in which a patient’s cornea (the clear front part of the eye) becomes progressively thinner. This can lead to blurred and / or distorted vision.
Cllr Jim Gildea speaking on behalf of the Minister for Health Information discussed the fact that the disease is relatively unknown in the wider community, and commented on the contribution of this book to a greater worldwide professional understanding of the diagnosis and treatments available.
Ms Ethel Wallace was also in attendance, and she spoke to the audience about her first-hand experience of living with Keratoconus, the impact on the quality of her life and the treatment she underwent.
